Biography: Li Qirong is a professor at the Center for International Migration and Overseas Chinese Studies, Central China Normal University, and founding director of the Wuhan Theoretical Research Center for Overseas Chinese Affairs / Wuhan Base of Overseas Chinese Affairs Theoretical Research under the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.
He is a Distinguished Professor, Dean of the Overseas Chinese College and member of the Academic Committee at Lishui University, as well as a Distinguished Professor at the ASEAN College / China-ASEAN Institute of Regional and Country Studies, Guangxi Minzu University.
He serves as an expert reviewer for the National Social Science Fund, Ministry of Education projects, academic dissertations and the Changjiang Scholars Program. He is Vice President of the Chinese Association of World Ethnology, a contributing reviewer forInternational Migration Review(USA), academic advisor for the 100-episode documentaryChinatown(which won the Special Award of the Chinese Documentary Academic Award) produced by Phoenix TV, and academic advisor forBagui Overseas Chinese Journal.
His main research field is international migration and overseas Chinese studies. In 2022, he delivered 15 lectures entitledResearch on the Patriotism and Cultural Identity of Overseas Chinesefor members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
He has presided over 17 provincial and ministerial-level projects, including those funded by the National Social Science Fund, Ministry of Education, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. He has published 30 books and more than 200 academic papers in journals such asEthno-National Studies, World Ethno-National Studies, World History, Social SciencesandInternational Migration Review.
His representative works includeStudies on International Migration and Overseas Chinese, Studies on International Migration and Overseas Chinese (Sequel), Studies on International Migration and Overseas Chinese (Vol. III), andInternational Migration Policy and Governance. He has received more than 10 teaching and research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including those from the Ministry of Education.
